6 Things You Can Do To Help Out A Friend When They Need It Most

When life gets a little complicated, a bit of practical support can go a long way. That’s why The Dinner Ladies is proud to support Gather My Crew, helping Australians who need it with a freezer full of love. If you’re looking for more ways to help someone you love, here are six of our favourite practical ways to lend a hand.

1. Dinner’s done
The key is taking care of the everyday things that can start to feel like an extra burden. By taking the decision-making off their plate and putting something delicious and nourishing on it, you show you care in a simple, thoughtful way.

2. Tackle the school drop-off
It’s one of those everyday jobs that takes up a surprising amount of time, and an easy one for someone else to take care of for a few days. You can also double down by packing the lunchboxes with something easy and nutritious and sorting an afternoon snack while you’re at it.

3. Take their bins out
It might seem like a tiny thing, but it’s easy to forget and genuinely useful, particularly if someone is recovering and physical jobs are a little tricky.

4. Do a supermarket run
Ask for a list rather than guessing, then drop the goods at their door. It’s one less errand for them and one very practical way for you to help. Plus, it gives you a chance to see them in person and check in on how they’re going.

5. Sit with them, or take them to an appointment
Sometimes company matters as much as practical support. Offer to drive them to an appointment, sit in the waiting room or simply pop over for a cuppa. Short and sweet keeps the pressure off while still showing you care.

6. Take care of a household job
Put on a load of washing, empty the dishwasher, walk the dog, call a tradesperson or give the kitchen a quick tidy. The little jobs don’t stop when life gets complicated, so taking even one off their list can make a difference.
