Syrian chicken with honey, lemon and ginger

Syrian chicken with honey, lemon and ginger

We’ve taken liberties with our original Karen Martini recipe and it’s morphed into this deliciously simple (for you) tray bake of chicken supremes, smothered in chermoula paste and sauced with a lip-smacking, cold-busting mix of chicken stock, lemon, honey, currants and julienned ginger. Serve with cous cous or a rice pilaf – or even mashed potato - with plenty of dark green, leafy silverbeet or spinach on the side.

To Serve

Serve with cous cous – small grained or pearl – mixed with chickpeas for extra sustenance and sprinkled with toasted almonds and spring onions. But for a midweek family dinner, buttered mash could easily be the go. Either way, a big salad or pile of steamed leafy greens, dressed with olive oil, garlic and lemon, would go nicely.

Ingredients

Free range chicken (54%), onion, crushed tomatoes (tomato puree, citric acid), olive oil, ginger (1.6%), water, garlic, honey (1.5%), lemon juice (1.3%), currants, salt, fresh coriander, chicken stock (water, free range chicken bones, onions, carrot, celery and bay leaves), cumin ground, lemon zest, thyme, cinnamon, cumin seeds, turmeric, chilli flakes, saffron

* We don’t add preservatives or additives to our meals – we cook with the same real ingredients you would find in your home fridge and pantry. Some of these household ingredients do contain sub-ingredients, for example Dijon mustard contains sulphites and crushed tomatoes contain citric acid. We try to find products with as few additives as possible and always list every ingredient in our meals, both here and on the label.

    Syrian Chicken

This dish is tasty and has a nice balance of different ingredients. Love that you can just put it in the oven and dinner is done.

    Delicious!

Delicious and beautifully flavoured, tender and very moist chicken which we just had for a late lunch. Lovely subtle flavours. I've had this before so I knew how good it was and it certainly lived up to expectations. 10 out of 10!
