Bao buns with slow-cooked hoisin pork

Bao buns with slow-cooked hoisin pork

It’d be wrong to play favourites among our dinners but just quietly, this one’s up there – juicy, slow-roast shredded pork, marinated in ginger, garlic and home-made hoisin then folded through with spring onions and coriander ready to stuff into satiny soft bao buns. It’s a little bit Taiwanese, a little bit contemporary Australian – and a lot of fun to eat.

There’s already spring onions and coriander in the slow-cooked pork mix, but some extra of both would be a welcome green addition, along with batons of cucumber. Depending on what you have in the fridge, you could also add pickled vegetables, kim chi, jalapenos and/or sriracha mayo.

We don't add preservatives or additives to our meals - we cook with real ingredients, just like you would at home. We do occasionally use kitchen pantry staples that include some additives. For example, tomato sauce contains acetic and critic acid.

Pulled pork 52% (Pork (79%), rice vinegar, red miso paste (soy), honey, ginger, garlic, spring onion, soy sauce (soy, wheat), rice bran oil, fresh coriander, spices, sesame oil), Bao Bun (wheat flour (54%), water, sugar, sunflower oil, corn starch, yeast, baking powder, salt). Hoisin sauce (honey, red miso paste (water, soybean, rice, salt, alcohol (2%), riboflavin), rice vinegar, garlic, spices)

This has replaced my takeout habit and has better portions. Extra buns can be frozen and microwaved later

    Pillowy soft

Absolutely delicious! The pork bao buns were pillowy soft, filled with tender, flavorful pork, and perfectly complemented by the rich, sweet hoisin sauce. A five-star bite of heaven—would order again in a heartbeat!
