Japanese beef and sesame bites with Tonkatsu Sauce

Japanese beef and sesame bites with Tonkatsu Sauce

We love a wholesome bite that can do double (or triple) duty as dinner, snack and lunchbox filler. These Japanese-influenced patties are packed full of a reassuring amount of vegies (carrots, zucchini and spring onions), pepped up with sesame, ginger and garlic, and come with a lip-smacking tonkatsu dipping sauce (a blend of soy, Worcestershire and tomato sauces with a bit of mustard and tahini). Toss with noodles and vegies or just dunk away.

To Serve

A pile of these makes an easy, fun dinner for kids – leftovers are great in a lunchbox – or a hand-around drinks snack for grown-ups, glazed with some of the sauce (the bites, not the adults). To make a more substantial dinner of the bites, cook and then toss, with the sauce through udon noodles with some extra Asian greens

Ingredients

Minced beef (56%), Panko breadcrumbs (wheat flour, salt, yeast, dextrose, water), carrot, zucchini, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, soy sauce (water, soybean, wheat, salt, alcohol, sugar, food acids (262, 270, 260), free range egg, spring onion, garlic, sesame seeds (0.6%), salt, rice bran oil, sesame oil (0.25%), ginger powder. Tonkatsu sauce (tomato sauce (tomatoes 79%, sugar, salt, acetic and citric acid, natural flavours), soy sauce (water, soybean, wheat, salt, alcohol, sugar, food acids (262, 270, 260), Worcestershire sauce (water, vinegar, molasses, rehydrated vegetables, salt, spices, natural flavours, color caramel IV, spice extract), sesame paste, sugar, mustard ground)
