Mmm, pie. This family-friendly dish of beef braised in veal stock and crushed tomatoes, with a healthy serving of roast vegetables tucked under its golden, butter-puff pastry lid, is the kind of food we all want to return to on a brisk winter’s evening, rubbing our hands as the aroma of baking pastry fills the house. Buttered mash on the side is probably compulsory but a hunk of crusty bread wouldn’t be out of place.

To Serve

Buttered mash or crusty bread would be good with the pie's delicious gravy, as would a baked potato. There are plenty of vegetables in the pie but a green salad with a nice, sharp dressing is always welcome with pastry.

To Cook

Remove plastic film and preheat oven (FF) to 200C.
DEFROSTED: cook for approximately 35-40 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
FROZEN: cook for approximately 45-50 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
For a more golden pastry top, brush the pastry with a beaten egg or milk.
