A good bowl of porridge, jazzed up with the very complementary flavours of apple, maple syrup and cinnamon, makes getting out of bed on cold winter mornings just a little bit sweeter. If you don't actually have to make it yourself, then the day's off to a really good start. This is a traditional oatmeal porridge, made half and half with milk and water, slowly cooked and stirred till creamy smooth, with cooked diced apple, maple syrup and cinnamon folded through at the end. We're keeping the sweetness on the low side so that the calorie count comes in around 350 a generous 375ml serve - feel free to lash out and top up the syrup or sprinkle on some brown sugar. Reheat in the microwave (take the lid off first and prop it loosely on top) for 4-5 minutes from frozen, stirring every couple of minutes or defrost then reheat in a small saucepan over a gentle heat, stirring every so often. You may need to add a little more milk or water if you want a more liquid consistency.
