Black bean and tempeh burger with maple and sriracha

HERE'S HOW WE MAKE IT

We soak black turtle beans and mix them with tempeh and cooked onions, garlic and carrots.  We add pecans and pepitas for crunch, maple syrup for sweetness, extra flavour from tomato paste and soy sauce and finally some heat with a little sriracha.  This nutritious, nutty, hearty mix is then formed into burgers and frozen - ready for you to pan fry or barbeque.

INGREDIENTS

Black turtle beans,  organic tempeh (soy, cider vinegar and rhizopus culture), rolled oats, garlic, carrots, pecans, pepitas, olive oil, onion, salt, tomato paste,maple syrup, sriracha, soy sauce.

Serves four adults with accompaniments.

GOES WITH

A perfect quick mid-week dinner or weekend barbie - For a low carb option, serve on their own with a salad; or with smashed avocado and a squeeze of lime, with a green tahini sauce or a tomato relish and slaw. Or serve in a toasted bun with the usual range of burger accompaniments.

PREP, COOK AND SERVE

Cook on a lightly oiled barbecue hotplate or frying pan over medum heat for 3 minutes each side (from defrosted) to 4 minutes each side (from frozen), or  until browned and heated through.

DEFROST INFORMATION: This product is frozen. May be cooked straight from frozen or defrosted overnight in the fridge.  Keep refrigerated and cook and consume within 48 hours. For a quick defrost, place sealed bag in room temperature water and ensure that you finish cooking within 2 hours of starting the defrosting process.
